Instagram Threads, Twitter's rival app, officially born

Battle of giants: Elon Musk and Mark Zuckerberg face off with Threads, the new Instagram app that challenges Twitter

If a possible Colosseum lion fight between Elon Musk and Mark Zuckerberg is being discussed, one of the reasons is Threads, Instagram's new companion app that aims to challenge Twitter.

This project, initially known as 'Project 92' and later as 'Barcelona', has been under discussion for months. Now, finally, the official announcement has come. The app has been launched directly on the Google Play Store, although it is available on a limited basis for the time being. However, it is only a matter of time before it is released for all users on a stable basis.

Threads. The text-based social network linked to Instagram
The idea of Threads is to create a text-based social network that links directly to Instagram, allowing users to keep their nickname and follow the same accounts. This integration offers the possibility of creating textual posts, raising the question: what is different from Facebook? Technically, not much, since a wide range of content can be shared on Facebook. However, the aim of Threads is to offer an experience focused on textual discussion, thus distinguishing itself from the confusion that often characterises Facebook.

Channeling the text experience on Threads
Meta, the company behind Threads, aims to channel users who want a social networking experience focused on text discussion. While Facebook has become a place where content of various kinds mingles, Threads offers an alternative dedicated to text sharing. Although specific details are still limited, users are expected to have a 500-character limit to express their ideas, while on Twitter the limit is 280 characters, rising to 25,000 for Twitter Blue members.

The goal of attracting celebrities
Threads aims to collect major celebrities, which is why it links directly to Instagram, allowing a frictionless transition from one social network to the other with a single click. Meta aims to create a well-run, safe and trustworthy platform where users can build and grow their audience. This goal seems to be a dig at Twitter, which has been widely criticised for its controversial management after being acquired by Elon Musk.

Sound management of social
The statement by Chris Cox, Chief Product Officer of Meta, emphasises the importance of creating a soundly managed platform. This statement seems to be an implicit imposition on Twitter, which has faced several controversies related to its management after its acquisition by Elon Musk. It remains to be seen whether Threads will be able to turn things around, also considering Meta's turbulent past in social network management.

The integration with Instagram
A key advantage of Threads is its integration with Instagram. This allows users to easily switch from one social network to the other with a single click. The interconnection between the two platforms offers a synergy that facilitates content sharing and a seamless user experience.

The future of Threads
The future of Threads is still uncertain, but the app looks like a potential alternative for those who want a social networking experience focused on text-based discussion. Over time, it will be interesting to see how Threads evolves and how it will position itself in relation to other platforms such as Twitter.
