The oldest galaxy ever was discovered by the James Webb telescope

The  James Webb space telescope discovered the oldest galaxy ever, and is 13.4 billion light-years away.

By analyzing the light according to its wavelength, it was possible to estimate that the galaxy dates back 350 million years after Big Bang. The previous record was 400 million years, surpassed by three other galaxies among the 250 analyzed by the James Webb.

The James Webb space telescope, launched into orbit on December 25, 2021, aims to observe the universe even closer to its origin.

The discovery of the distant galaxy
The space telescope James Webb has returned to talk about itself for having identified the most distant galaxy ever observed before, 13.4 billion light years from Earth.

A Record was broken
By analyzing the light according to its wavelength, it was possible to estimate that the galaxy dates back 350 million years after Big Bang. The previous record was 400 million years, but it had already been surpassed by three other galaxies among the 250 analyzed by the James Webb.

Recall that the launch of the James Webb space telescope took place on December 25, 2021, on a rocket Ariane 5 from the ELA-3 launch pad in Arianespace, a complex located near Kourou, in French Guiana, provided by ESA.

Galaxies detected over the years
As written by Nasa, of about 250 galaxies studied, there are four of which the existence has been estimated already before 400 million years from Big Bang. Two had already been detected by HubbleSpace Telescope, the other two by James Webb. It is precisely the latter, namely the JADES-GS-z12-0 and the JADES-GS-z13-0, the oldest ever observed so far.
