500 Lire Caravelle
The 500 Lire Caravelle was minted from 1958 to 1967 and was in circulation until that year. After this date the coins were minted only for collectors' packs. These packs are sold by the state mint with an annual expiration date. Today it is one of the most sought-after coins by collectors. In 1957 more than 2,200 specimens of the 500 lire “Caravelle” were minted, which were given as gifts to parliamentarians and are much more valuable than other coins.
Value
Its value ranges from 3,000 to 12,000 euros, and can vary greatly depending on certain conditions. In general, the value of a coin increases if it was produced in small quantities for a special event or because the coin has manufacturing errors, which are highly sought after by collectors and extremely rare.
Conditions that determine the value of currency
Specifically, for the greatest gain to be made from the 500 Lire Caravelle, the coin must have been minted in 1957. In fact, the value increases if it has been preserved in good condition and if it is the trial version, which as mentioned earlier, was minted in limited numbers. In addition, the coin must not show any signs of wear and be recognized as a conservation grade "FDC" (Fior di Conio).
