Vincent van Gogh, 'Starry Night'
In 'Starry Night' Van Gogh places a small church in the centre of the painting, reminiscent of the Dutch churches in his home country, on the left he places a cypress tree in the foreground, while the village and the undulating sky with its luminous spheres seem to merge into each other. Vincent van Gogh, 'Café Terrace at night'
The work, now in the museum in Otterlo, captures a nocturnal view of the Place du Forum, in Arles (France). The vision, interrupted on the left by the blue jamb of a doorway, continues across a platform on which three rows of small green tables are arranged: there we find seated tourists, casual passers-by, habituees, intent on enjoying the evening and perhaps sipping a liqueur, while a waiter collects orders. Vincent van Gogh, 'The Potato Eaters'
The work depicts the interior of a poor dwelling in Nuenen, barely illuminated by a dim light, which, spilling from the oil lamp hanging from one of the ceiling beams, reflects on the meagre meal of the diners. In the centre of the composition is a peasant family who, after spending the day working hard in the fields, gather around a table to eat dinner. (Source: wikipedia)

Vincent van Gogh, 'The Sunflowers'
The painting shows the sunflowers in each stage of flowering, from bud to withering. Although some have interpreted the twisted shapes of the petals and stems as a sign of torment, it transpires from the letters to his brother that this subject gave joy and optimism, as a symbol of the temperate climate of the south. Moreover, the sunflower often symbolises devotion and loyalty and the various stages of decay could symbolise the cycles of life and death. (Source: wikipedia)

Vincent van Gogh, 'Bedroom in Arles'
According to this interpretation, Vincent's room in Arles would be the place where the artist's psychological interiority can rest and where his most secret intimacy shines through, even more so than in the self-portraits. The various objects set against the wall offer protection to the inhabitant of this room, who in this way can escape the storminess of life and bask in this domestic idyll where he is able to find well-being, calm, silence. Vincent van Gogh, 'Garden of Hospital of Arles'
Van Gogh made an initial drawing of the hospital courtyard in June 1889. The point of view is that of the painter himself from the viewpoint of his room on the first floor of the building. The work is a masterpiece of silent and sensitive portrayal of the artist's situation. The painting takes on the theme of his experience of imprisonment, but the stylistic poignancy of the canvas is not affected. (Source: wikipedia)
