University is a fundamental step in the lives of many young people. Often, the choice of academic path is based on a few principles: what we want to study, our willingness to travel from home, but also the reputation of the university we would like to enrol in.

Every year, many rankings are made on which are the best universities to study at. We would like to focus on the one compiled by the QS World University Rankings, which takes into account six factors: academic reputation, employer reputation, faculty/student ratio, citations per faculty, international student ratio and international lecturer ratio.

British universities dominate the top spots, but Swiss and French universities are also very good. Here are the top ten universities to study at in Europe

1 - Cambridge University - United Kingdom
First place in Europe, and second in the world, for the historic university of Cambridge. According to legend it was founded, around 1200, by some students who fled from Oxford, with which there is still a great rivalry, as evidenced by the historic regatta.

4 - University College London - United Kingdom
The University College London was founded in 1826 as a secular alternative to the more famous Oxford and Cambridge. In 1973, the first node of the ARPANET network (precursor to the Internet) outside the United States of America was installed at the UCL. It offers a diverse educational program, from medicine and engineering to the humanities and environmental sciences, which represent the future of education.

Fifth university in Europe and ninth in the world, the Swiss Federal Institute of Technology Zurich is Switzerland's most prestigious university, and one of the world's most important research centers. Founded in 1855 following the example of the École polytechnique in Paris, it trains students in scientific and technical fields, engages in research, offers advanced courses for specialists and provides technical and scientific services. The EPFL (Federal Polytechnic School of Lausanne) has more than 13,000 people on campus, including approximately 9,000 students, 280 professors, 1,300 teaching assistants and researchers and entrepreneurs within the school's Parc Scientifique. 107 nationalities are registered and more than 50 percent of the teaching staff are foreigners. In Europe it is the seventh best according to the parameters considered, and 16th in the world.

The Université Paris Sciences et Lettres (PSL) is a French university of excellence, structured according to the collegiate model ComUE (COMmunautés d’Universités et Établissements). With 11 schools, the institution offers courses in a wide range of disciplines, including science, engineering, humanities and social sciences, as well as in the performing arts. Eighth in Europe, it is 26th globally according to the QS World University Rankings 2023.

9 - The University of Manchester, United Kingdom
This faculty, formed by the merger of the Victoria University of Manchester and the Institute of Science and Technology of the University of Manchester, is ninth in Europe and 28th in the world. It consists of four faculties: engineering and physical sciences, medicine, natural sciences, and humanities.

10 - King's College London, United Kingdom
King's College is Britain's fourth oldest university, having been founded in 1829 by King George IV and the Duke of Wellington, and among the most prestigious universities in the world. Consisting of about 21000 students and staff, it has counted among its students and academics great personalities in science and the humanities. It has an admission rate of 13 percent, making it one of the most competitive universities in Britain. Tenth and last in the European top 10, it still ranks 37th worldwide.
